Queens College alumna and artist Deja Patterson will address how the ideals of beauty have changed throughout the course of history. For centuries, Black women were only represented in portraiture as symbols of service and objectification. Deja’s paintings reclaim the Black female nude. She also reclaims power against unrealistic societal standards through her work, in response to the fat shaming and discrimination she has endured as a 300 pound woman.
