Flip your FM dial. Wherever you wind up, you’ll find fans of that music in Queens. We couldn’t believe there wasn’t a music festival that celebrated the borough’s vast variety of musical tastes and styles. Here, down the block from Armstrong’s home and at the site of the World’s Fair, we realized we needed a festival to celebrate the sounds of this most diverse borough.
The inaugural Louis Armstrong International Music Festival will take place in Flushing Meadows Corona Park on June 29, 2014 from 1–7 PM, on the 50th Anniversary of Louis Armstrong’s concert at the 1964 World’s Fair. The Festival features live music, dancing, and a food truck rally just south of the Unisphere. You are also invited to a Jazz Soiree with Catherine Russell that kicks off the exhibit: Ambassador Satchmo at the World’s Fair—Celebrating 50 Years from 4–6 PM in the Queens Museum. Join us for a wonderful afternoon in Louis’ local park, Flushing Meadows Corona Park!
