Queens College Art Center & Queens College Campus
Tied to the overall theme of namaste* in Indian culture and in contemporary art, Year of India events – artists’ performances, video, music, lectures, visual demonstrations, and mini-exhibitions – will be hosted in the gallery and on campus grounds, where artists will create sculpture loosely based on shamiyanas (the Indian tent). This “pop-up” sculpture, like the gallery, will serve as a “pod” for the cross-pollination of Indian and American art. Respectful of others, respectful of each other, the spaces and programming of Namaste will offer new perspectives on global respect through art, language, music, and performance.
*In modern interpretation from the Sanskrit root, “The spirit in me respects the spirit in you.”
Gallery Hours: Monday – Thursday, 9 am–8 pm; Friday, 9 am–5 pm; closed weekends and holidays.
