Trumpeter and composer Gabriel Alegria has developed Afro-Peruvian jazz—a uniquely passionate sound filled with color and drive—by exploring the common African roots found in contemporary American jazz and the rich black music of coastal Peru. The result is “a fascinating glimpse into how jazz is fusing with regional music around the world,” says the LA Weekly.
