Carter Van Pelt started the Reggae on the Boardwalk series in 2010 out of his passion for Jamaican music and the hope of bringing a taste of the old time Jamaican reggae soundsystem culture to New York City. He’s been doing the events for over a decade along the Coney Island Boardwalk, and now brings it to the Rockaways in Queens. Carter’s soundsytsem events offer an authentic opportunity to experience Jamaican music’s unique aesthetic, live and direct! The event features reggae DJs and emcees performing on a Jamaican-style soundsystem; a large configuration of speaker boxes designed to amplify music with volume and clarity.
