Join us for a fantastic day of FREE live music at Gantry Plaza State Park in Long Island City as part of QUEENS RISING, the month-long celebration of arts and culture in Queens. The event will feature three captivating sets of live music that are sure to provide an unforgettable experience for audiences of all ages. Don’t forget to bring your dancing shoes!
Yosvany Terry Afro-Cuban Jazz Ensemble (5:30 PM – 6:30 PM): In New York since 1999, Yosvany Terry is known as a brilliant saxophonist, chekere virtuoso, and visionary composer who masterfully melds the traditional sounds of his native Cuba with innovation, fiery post-bop, and sophisticated harmonies. Indefatigable in his labor as artist and culture bearer of the Afro-Cuban tradition, the maestro “has helped redefine Latin jazz as a complex new idiom” (The New York Times).
Claudia Valentina Montes (7:00 PM – 8:00 PM): Consistently delivering an ocean of rhythmic, seductive, and energetic symphony, Claudia evokes sounds of reflection with an array of music, that while deeply rooted in the golden era of Mexican music and traditions, spans across the whole world. Soulful arrangements of original and classic boleros, rancheras, son jarocho, cumbias, and indigenous pieces, it’s an emotional journey inward that she embarks on with her audience, invoking essences of Chavela, Ella, Gal, Nina and more.
Stay tuned for exciting updates as we unveil additional artists!
