THE JIMMY HEATH SCHOLARSHIP FUND CONCERT
May 21, 2022, at 7:00 pm
$10 – $25
This concert will raise funds to support the Jimmy Heath Scholarship Fund at Queens College.
The late great saxophonist Jimmy Heath (1926-2020) was a giant in the world of jazz, as a bandleader, composer, educator, and mentor to countless musicians. As an educator, Heath was a long-time professor at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College, where he founded the jazz program in 1986, and helped to create its master’s curriculum up until his retirement a decade later. All the while, Master Heath continued to perform, write, teach, and conduct workshops and clinics throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and Japan up until his death at the age of 93. Join QC Professor and Director of the Jazz Studies Program saxophonist/composer Antonio Hart, as he and a group of invited guests pay tribute to the lasting musical and personal legacy of a true jazz giant.
