THE OPPORTUNITY

Kupferberg Center for the Arts (KCA) at Queens College seeks a resourceful, self-motivated, and versatile freelance Grant Writer who will support KCA’s development strategy through the drafting of foundation, corporate, and government grants, and researching new prospects. The Grant Writer will develop grant applications and reports, sponsorship proposals, and other appropriate funder correspondences.

The largest multi-disciplinary arts entity in the borough of Queens, Kupferberg Center’s overall mission is to provide high-quality accessible and affordable cultural attractions to the Queens College community and the borough’s 2.3 million residents. KCA features world-class artists and performances at its main stage campus venues, and showcases the talents of emerging and regional artists in off-site, neighborhood settings. A leader in the cultural landscape of Queens, KCA connects residents of the most culturally diverse region in the nation to their unique artistic heritages, showcasing these arts to a broader audience and highlighting the contributions each makes to the distinct nature of our campus and community.

The Grant Writer will report to the Director of KCA. Intended start date is January 2026.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Writing: Lead the preparation of letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and narrative reports for existing and prospective foundation, corporate, and government funders, and in some instances individual donors. Edit existing materials for updated proposals and reports, tailoring each draft to speak to the specific funder.

  • Proposals and Reports: Organize and gather internal sources of information including program details, budgets, and statistics for purposes of grant submissions. Assist with records management.

  • Research: Explore and analyze funder databases, peer organizations’ websites, 990s, community resources, local corporations, outside referrals, and other sources to find new potential funders that fit the organization’s mission and programming. Perform prospect research to support existing and new programs and create or update funder profiles and briefing materials, as necessary.

  • Meet with leadership on a weekly or bi-weekly basis—remotely, with occasion for on-site meetings, as required—to report on status of proposals, reports, prospect research, and other open items.

 

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 3-5 years of professional experience in grant writing and/or grants management

  • Impeccable attention to detail

  • Highly skilled in prioritizing and organizing a complex calendar of deadlines

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work well in a team environment under minimum supervision

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word

  • Passion for the arts and/or nonprofits

  • Familiarity with Queens and New York City cultural sectors

 

COMPENSATION

This position is a part-time freelance consultancy paid at the rate of $45-50 per hour, not to exceed 40 hours per month.

KCA is looking for reliable, personable, energetic people to work as part-time ushers for the Center’s three performance spaces: Colden Auditorium, Goldstein Theatre, and LeFrak Concert Hall.

KCA is looking for reliable, personable, energetic people to work as part-time ushers for the Center’s three performance spaces: Colden Auditorium, Goldstein Theatre, and LeFrak Concert Hall. KCA annually hosts a wide variety of musical, dance and dramatic presentations, as well as many cross-cultural events, ceremonies, recitals, corporate meetings, and rallies.

KCA ushers work the front lines, are the face of KCA and our “Ambassadors of Good Will.” Ushers take/scan tickets, provide seating direction, insure that our “house rules” are followed, answer a myriad of patron questions and, on occasion, assist with merchandise sales, Meet & Greet operations and post-show clean-up of venue. Available shifts, which range from 3-6 hours depending on need and program, are at various times of the day and evening with many weekend opportunities – perfect for those looking for a flexible work schedule to complement school or additional employment commitments.

Administrative Coordinator (QC SCHOOL OF ARTS & HUMANITIES)

The Queens College School of Arts and Humanities invites applications for the position of Administrative Coordinator—a key role supporting the Office of the School of Arts in ensuring the smooth and effective operation of its day-to-day and long-term initiatives.

In support of the Office of the School of Arts and reporting to the Associate Director, the Administrative Coordinator’s duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Administer and manage recurring office functions, such as correspondence and communications with faculty and staff, organizing and scheduling weekly department meetings, preparing meeting minutes and follow-up plans, monitoring staff assignments, and distributing timely and relevant information.

Assist with programming and planning, including workshops, bootcamps, site visits, and networking events.

Update and maintain several office databases to ensure completeness and accuracy; maintain current information on the department website and archives.

Conduct database research related to department activities.

Support the Associate Director with the development and implementation of strategic plans and initiatives.

Work collaboratively and professionally in a team setting with a diverse staff of all levels.

Assist with financial management tasks, including processing payments and budget preparation.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Internship Opportunities

Kupferberg Center for the Arts offers internship opportunities to Queens College arts students on and off campus. Funded by the Kupferberg Center Arts Advisory Board, internships are intended to provide our students with professional experience and the necessary networks to look for employment in the arts once they graduate College. Internships are solely intended for Queens College students and are contingent on existing funding.
