Cirque Kalabanté: WOW (WORLD OF WORDS)

SUN, OCT 25, 2026, 3 PM at COLDEN AUDITORIUM

Get ready for a vibrant stage experience that transcends language! WOW (World of Words) is more than a show; it’s an encounter and a bridge between two worlds.

Imagine a stage where ancestral African wisdom captivates the audience. Separated by a symbolic line, one group shares its knowledge through powerful storytelling, hypnotic songs, and ritual initiation, while the other receives and learns, sometimes with fear and sometimes with resistance.

As the exchange unfolds, the barriers of spoken language give way to the universal power of gesture, rhythm, and sound. The set and its ropes become a language of their own, transforming double Dutch skipping, bungee straps, and rope-based contortion into pathways of communication.

Three guiding figures, Trust (W), Respect (O), and Wisdom (W), lead the journey.

Through acrobatic encounters and moments of mutual support, the dividing line gradually disappears. Bodies connect, blending tradition with contemporary movement. The performance culminates in an exhilarating choreography of unity and collective awakening, transforming the journey into a powerful revelation.

About Kalabanté Productions

Kalabanté Productions was founded in Montreal in 2007 by Yamoussa Bangoura, a multidisciplinary artist of Guinean origin. Inspired by his dream of creating a school of circus arts and leading his own multidisciplinary company specializing in African arts, Yamoussa built a company that celebrates the richness and diversity of African culture.

Growing up in Conakry, Guinea, in the 1990s, Yamoussa developed an early passion for circus arts. He studied circus performers on European television and practiced his skills on the beaches and open ground around his home. He also explored the Nyamakala tradition of circus practiced by the Fula people of West Africa. He later joined Guinea’s original circus company, Circus Baobab, touring throughout Africa and Europe.

In the early 2000s, Yamoussa moved to Canada to perform with Cirque Éloize, a Montreal-based circus company. He subsequently performed with Cirque du Soleil and Cavalia before realizing his dream of founding Kalabanté Productions in 2007. He invited members of his extended family, including his twin sisters, brothers, and cousins, to join the company.

From its beginnings in Quebec, Kalabanté has expanded across Canada, the United States, and around the world. In 2018, the company opened its own studio and school in Montreal, offering classes in African dance, circus arts, and drumming.

Kalabanté Productions is proud to share its artistry, skills, and cultural heritage with audiences worldwide while supporting humanitarian initiatives that benefit communities in Guinea, the homeland of Yamoussa and many of the company’s members.
