Afro-Arab Jazz featuring Tarek Yamani & Yacine Boulares Quartet

SAT, OCT 5, 8 PM
LeFrak Concert Hall
Yamani and Boulares stand among a select few Arabic musicians who have dedicated their lives to jazz.

Discover the electrifying fusion in “Afro-Arab Jazz,” a dynamic collaboration between Lebanese pianist Tarek Yamani and French-Tunisian saxophonist Yacine Boulares, blending Arabic trance rhythms and jazz harmonies. With a quartet featuring Jongkuk Kim on drums and Sam Minaie on bass, they weave together Arabic trance rhythms and jazz harmonies, from Lebanese Dabke to Tunisian Stambeli and Mezwed traditions, all under the project name WAIYK.

Tarek Yamani, dividing his time between New York and Berlin, has been acclaimed as a “trailblazing pianist” by CNN. He clinched the prestigious “Thelonious Monk Int’l Jazz Composers Competition” with his composition “Sama’i Yamani” and has graced the stages of four all-star global concerts for International Jazz Day, sharing them with luminaries such as Wayne Shorter, Richard Bona, Zakir Hussein, Esperanza Spalding, Antonio Sanchez, Brian Blade, and Vinnie Colaiuta.

Yacine Boulares, described by Radio France Internationale as “one of the most talented Jazzmen of his generation,” recently collaborated with Archie Shepp for the re-creation of “The Cry of My People” in New York. His collaborations span an illustrious roster, including Placido Domingo, Nasheet Waits, Vincent Segal, and Tabou Combo. Additionally, he co-leads AJOYO with Sarah Elizabeth Charles & Jesse Fischer and co-founded the Habibi Festival in New York.
