La Cumbiamba eNeYé, led by Martin Vejarano and established in 2000, is the first gaita music ensemble in the United States to introduce, perform, and teach this tradition. Rooted in the Afro-Indigenous-Colombian culture of campesino communities, gaita music brings together music, dance, and communal life, shaped by indigenous gaita flutes, Afro-Colombian drums, and European and Arab influences from the Iberian Peninsula. Vejarano presents a festive repertoire of original compositions written for the Gaitas y Tambores format, expanding the tradition while preserving its core identity.
