DATE: SUN, JUN 9, 3 PM
VENUE: LeFrak Concert Hall

The Shireinu Choir of Long Island is a Jewish mixed voice community choir that presents choral literature in Hebrew, English and Yiddish. The repertoire will showcase a variety of musical genres of past and contemporary composers.

Our repertoire is taken from traditional Jewish choral works of noted past and contemporary composers. Among the selections in this year’s concert are Kiddush by Kurt Weill featuring soloist Cantor Raphael Frieder, Martin’s Dream by David Burger, and Der Kapitan, a medley featuring Gilbert & Sullivan in Yiddish.

In addition to concerts that entertain listeners of all ages, the choir also performs to help raise funds for charitable causes and to give back to the community. Participants from any town or borough are invited to audition for the choir. We are an SATB, non-denominational choir.

Deborah Tartell is the founding Conductor and Musical Director of the Shireinu Choir of Long Island, with almost 40 years of experience as a public school choral director, musical theater director, private voice and piano teacher. Deborah received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Delaware and did graduate work at the Britten-Pears School for Advanced Musical Studies in Aldeburgh, England.
