Aaron Copland School of Music Presents: Drora Pershing Memorial Concert
October 30, at 2:30 pmFree
Please join us for a concert and celebration of the life and legacy of Drora Pershing (1935-2020), teacher, performer, scholar, administrator, and indomitable spirit of the Aaron Copland School of Music.
Performances of a range of Drora’s beloved music, from Josquin and Isaac to Bach, Schubert and Brahms, featuring ACSM faculty and ensembles including Morey Ritt, Daniel Phillips, David Jolley, the Queens College Vocal Ensemble with conductor James John, Konstanza Chernov, and others. There will be remembrances from colleagues, former students, family, and friends. Reception in the ACSM Atrium to follow, sponsored by the Pershing family. All are welcome. We hope to see many of Drora’s former students and colleagues.
Drora’s family, colleagues, and friends have launched a campaign to fund the naming of an appropriate space in the Music Building in her honor. All donations will benefit the Aaron Copland School of Music and will be added to the Barkai-Pershing Memorial Scholarship Fund, which Drora established in 1996 in memory of her mother, Anna Barkai, to support deserving students majoring in music who are in financial need and who demonstrate a particular “love and enthusiasm for the study of music.”

Your contribution will strengthen this fund and will make scholarships available to the Copland School’s most passionate, dedicated students into the future.
